Temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD), also known as temporomandibular joint disorder, refers to a group of conditions affecting the temporomandibular joints (TMJ), the muscles responsible for jaw movement, and the surrounding structures. The TMJ connects the jawbone (mandible) to the skull and plays a crucial role in chewing, speaking, and other jaw functions.
